Description
The symptom began as a child with a small spot on the right arm and spread over the years. Today the spots are on the inside of the arms and from the axilla down to the chest.
The situation was triggered by a serious accident resulting in the death of her uncle, which she was told about. He was very close to her and she spent more time with him than with her father. She was powerless at the moment of the news, it was unexpected and she experienced it very dramatically. The experience was isolating, because the family hardly ever talked about it and so she was unable to deal with it.
She met her husband when she was 17. He had a brisk driving style and the more conscious she became and the closer her relationship with him became, the more the vitiligo spread to the areas described above. That meant that the closer a person came into her life, the greater the fear of loss - for her husband and the more independent the children became, for them too.
“When my husband was at work, I always had images in my head of him not coming home. I always saw him in front of the tree.” The psychological experience always matches the physical symptom. There is a constant (subliminal) fear that something will happen to someone close to them.
The physical symptoms mainly manifest themselves on the inside of the body, because this is where the focus is on holding on to someone - clutching them.
Triggers of separation anxiety are, for example: Phone calls, accidents, ambulances, falls, operations
